Last weekend our paper had a feature article entitled "How To Fire Your Broker"... seriously... it described exactly the situation you are in... Had about 8 different solutions... I should see if the article is available online.

My TradeStar broker is in Fort Worth (long story), and
he never called.

As for your Virginia broker, maybe you could drop him
a note saying that by using the savvy advice gleaned
on SI, you now want to have a consolidated self-directed
account. And best wishes for his 'net surfing.
