OT(?) WHY GIVE RED CHINA MFN? FOLLOW THE MONEY By: John Bender Bill Clinton and Al Gore are going all out to get Most Favored Nation (MFN) status for Communist China. This is no surprise. The brutal Communist regime is one of their biggest campaign contributors. Clinton and Gore are bought and paid for. No, the surprise in this matter, is the Republicans who are helping Clinton/Gore. Although the Chi-Coms are threatening to nuke the U.S., using technology that Clinton/Gore sold them for campaign contributions, many Republicans are fighting to give them MFN and even more technology. The Chi-Coms are threatening military action against the free Chinese on Taiwan if they try to remain free and resist being absorbed by the butchers who rule Communist China. They are threatening to use neutron bombs to destroy the people of Taiwan while leaving the infrastructure undamaged. Their military is moving troops and equipment into positions where that will allow them to invade Taiwan. They are threatening to nuke the U.S. if we try to defend the free Chinese. Communist China threats against Taiwan and the U.S. are not bluster. They can hit the U.S. mainland with multiple-warhead missiles, thanks to the U.S. technology they got over the last seven years. Their missile guidance systems are also accurate, thanks to technology from the U.S. Not only are China's Communist rulers becoming more militant and threatening toward the U.S. and other nations, they are still oppressing their own people. Human rights in China are nonexistent. Forced abortions are the law for anyone who has more children than the rulers allow. Christians and other religious people are persecuted and imprisoned in concentration camps, where they are turned into slave labors. Political dissidents face a similar fate. So why are the Republicans working so hard to give MFN to this vicious regime? There is no big push to give the Communist government in Cuba MFN. There is no real effort even to start trading with Cuba. Why? Is Cuba more repressive than Red China? Is Castro more brutal than the thugs in Beijing? Is the tiny island of Cuba more of a threat? Has Castro threatened to nuke the U.S. Is he threatening to invade any of his neighbors? Of course not. Cuba is not doing any of these things. It is no more repressive than Communist China and is no threat to the U.S. At worst Cuba is a miner annoyance. No, the difference is money. The dirty little secret is the Republicans are doing the bidding of their big contributors. Some of the biggest corporations in the U.S. stand to make a lot of money by selling technology to Communist China. Others want access to the slave labor available there. The heads of these corporations are spending big money to support Republican politicians, and those politicians are doing their bidding. Giving Communist China permanent MFN status will guarantee their goods the same low-tariff access to U.S. markets as capitalist nations enjoy. Goods made by slave labor in Chi-Com concentration camps will enjoy the same access to our markets as goods made in Britain or Switzerland. Companies will be able to contract with the Communists to have goods made in the concentration camps and bring those goods into the U.S. under the same tariffs as they now bring them in from capitalist countries. Labor costs will go down and profits will increase. There is no market for consumer goods in Communist China. U.S. companies do not expect to export manufactured goods. The trade deficit with Communist China was $68.7 billion last year and is expected to grow. Instead, U.S. companies will increase exports of technology and training to Communist China. They will help the Communists build their strategic industries and their infrastructure. The businesses that will gain the most are in industries like aviation, electronics, telecommunications, power generation, and construction. U.S. companies already sold the Chi-Coms technology that improved their military aircraft, and allowed them to build multiple-warhead missiles capable of reaching the U.S. mainland. They are training their pilots and their engineers. The U.S. is even selling them powerful computers that have both civilian and military uses. Major U.S. corporations like Motorola, Boeing, and Honeywell Aerospace are turning Communist China into a military threat to the U.S. The U.S. consumer is financing this by buying the cheap products the Chi-Coms are exporting to the U.S. If the U.S. gives Communist China permanent MFN status, the situation will get worse. More U.S. companies will import cheap consumer goods, and more U.S. corporations will sell the Chi- Coms strategic technology. The U.S. consumer will continue paying to build Communist China's military-industrial complex. Since the Chi-Coms are already belligerent one can expect them to become more hostile as their military might increases. If they are bold enough now to threaten the U.S. with war, they will be even more aggressive when they are stronger. Giving them permanent MFN will make them stronger faster. The Communists need to sell consumer good to the U.S. to get the money to build their military- industrial complex. Their economy cannot maintain their current level of military readiness. It sure cannot support an expansion of their war machine. Giving Communist China permanent MFN status will allow them to build their military industrial complex to a level that will make them comfortable attacking the U.S. How many people are going to think the dollar or two they saved on sneakers was worth it, when their sons and daughters are called to fight the Communist hordes? How many Sam's Club shoppers are going to feel good knowing their purchases paid for the weapons being used against their children and grandchildren? The answers to these questions are likely to come sooner rather than later, unless people speak up and stop Congress and the Clinton administration from doing this. Once it is done it will be too late.
