According to Yahoo!, SUNW first crossed 90 on Feb. 9 of this year, so I would say this setback amounts to about a month and a half (so far). Somehow it seems less serious when considered that way.

JMHO.

Dear Charles,

I am not so sure about the action tomorrow. Last couple of weeks , there has been a negative correlation between the NAS Futures the previous night and action the following morning. Currently they seem to be down some, so we may see modest gains in the morning.

If the market opens down big, I am quite sure there will be a rally by the end of the day. If the NAS opens sharply up, it is bound to go the other way within the first hour - too many short term momo traders trying to bail out. To be honest I won't really mind the NAS testing the 4000 or even the 3700 level by this summer and setle there for an extended basis (my portfolio will take a fairly big hit in such a situation, but I think it is healthy longer term), and let the large tech earnings grow into the valuations (Greenspan will not stop raising rates till the froth is taken out of the stock market) . There is just too much froth and hype surrounding the Net and absurd targets by analysts - too much volatility. And the volatility will not calm down till the compulsive speculators have been crushed. As I have said before, people who come on the bandwagon at the later stages of a pyramid scheme to make a fast buck, have only themselve to blame.

In one respect this correction has been quite forgiving to companies with strong fundamentals (even the high tech ones). Even with their high betas, SUN, INTC, MSFT, ORCL, CSCO etc have been down less than 10% roughly in line with the NASDAQ.

With respect to on-line brokerages I am also quite disgusted with Waterhouse. If anybody knows of an on line broker with especially good service and execution on options I wouldn't mind switching.

Regards

Alok
