Good Morning! Can't get much simpler than how this sez it: businessweek.com Overheard some more talk of manips and a bottom and optimism walking around New York yesterday - it sure is fun being in a street crowd and hearing so many snatches of conversation from all directions - easy to walk closer to what's interesting for awhile.
So the Presidential Election is 7 months away - time will fly. Plenty will have happened by then - both candidates will get days in the sun and days in the doghouse.
It's starting to get interesting enough to begin paying some attention to it (I know, that's terrible LOL).
Yep I'm terrible - will share some thoughts if you promise I won't have to defend them! I'm a registered Republican but never have voted a straight party ticket (didn't do that when I was a Democrat either) ... thinking this match is the most evenly balanced one to come along in decades: from the looks of it now, it'll be close.
Some impressions of mine at this early time:
re: Gore- if he hangs tight & all keeps going well, the catbird seat of "if it ain't broke don't fix it" will be his - this would be the most powerful force outside of all else when the moment comes to Push The Button in the voting booth, while saying "4 Years?". If the opposition tries disruption to steal this advantage, the American People aren't so stupid to accept that as "just politics" these days especially when such attempt will be highlighted by the press and Rightly So. Partisianship was magnified when Clinton was In Court - now An Avoid before this election IMHO. On the other hand, Gore's painted into a corner by the Clinton tarbrush alrite, yet can't back away from Clinton much more or risks making a worse appearance of disloyalty like he just did with this Cuba thing. And about appearance - he's stiff, with strange body language and gestures. His gift of expressive eyes can be truly soulful -also an artistic athletic persona can sometimes show. Gore looked better politically when Clinton first picked him for V.P. than now, howcome? Difficult to go back 8 years and pick up that thread, as he hasn't been able to do much since then as V.P.
Gore & Bush are an even match on International Experience -Gore Vice President & Bush President Bush's son have both been well apprenticed on the world arena.
re: Bush - Wish he'd drop that "Dubbya" it's redundant. Good thing it's him and not McCain - for reasons of appearances & strength. Bush sparkles like A Golden Boy in front of the camera and he's a charmer having a delightful witty way when he gets going. But his command of words doesn't always clarify the meanings & leaves what was said too open for interpretation later when stating a core opinion. Flirting with The Religious Right, already thrown down the pro-life gauntlet - is this truly himself or is it from focus-room demographics? His early attempts to unify the party are commendable, and bringing together such diametric idealogical opposites as he's trying to embody won't be easy. At this point, he seems to be testing the waters as he goes along, more than Gore is able to do - and that's a strength. As a Popular Governor with people from all income brackets, he very well could be a master of unification. Has a commanding presence and is great at staking his own position relative to others, a diplomatic Presidential quality.
It'll be an interesting Race!
