I agree that the pricing is Australia seems more apropos. In an earlier post (rant) you were expounding that Vodaphone should have Qualcom phones in Australia instead of Telit and Ericsson GSM handsets; Is it true today that the Qualcom handset can receive both CDMA and GSM cellular signals? I live in Alaska and am going golfing in Ireland in Mid-May for a month and can't get any CDMA, TDMA, or other cell-phone that will work at home and also work in the U. K. Since it is necessary for me to rent a GSM phone for the month, I have thought about buying a G* phone if it is truly tri-modal. It isn't as much about keeping the same phone number while I am gone, but rather having a handset that would access the local cell whatever mode it is in, and would access the satellite when there is no local cell.
My purchase of G* shares is predicated on the subscribers and minutes coming from Brazil, Australia and the like where I feel the complementary cell service is almost a non-factor. Those of us in the truly developed countries who chose a G* solution will be icing on the cake IMO.

POMPANO BEACH, FL--March 30, 2000 ? GMPCS Personal Communications, Inc.

Globalstar USA Distributor, GMPCS Personal Communications proudly announces their .49 cents per minute 2nd Quarter ?get acquainted with Globalstar? price promotion.

New GMPCS Globalstar Customers activating terminals between April 1 and May 15th who sign a one-year contract on the Standard Pak 20 Plan will enjoy introductory domestic airtime pricing of just $0.49 cents per minute through July 15th, 2000. GMPCS began offering Globalstar services on line @ www.gmpcs-us.com in mid December, 1999. Cellular Subscriptions are offered in 98% of the United States through national carrier contracts.

?We are the only distributor providing our customers with one-stop shopping (cellular and satellite bundling) on a National basis, no other distributor can make that statement?, says Klein, he goes on to say, ?Since the commercial launch in late February, sales have exceeded our wildest expectations. The recent demise of Iridium and the implementation of a Nationwide Dealer Network created a minor capacity problem in our office. We have added additional phone and fax lines as well as administrative and warehouse personnel to stay up with the crunch.?

Here's an idea! Perhaps GMPCS should buy out Globalstar and take over management - the way the share price is going they should be able to afford it in a month or so.

Regards, Dave

Maurice,

Your call for lower rates to spur demand is looking fairly prophetic in light of the GMPCS and Australian rate reduction news.... this will be good for all of us.

I believe minutes should be priced based on the location of the caller. If the caller is on an oil rig he would be charged $20/ min and 10 cents per minute in a metropolitan area where there are lots of alternatives.
