Factory Orders for Feb. = -0.8%

New orders for manufactured goods in February decreased $2.9 billion or 0.8 percent to $372.0 billion, the Department of Commerce, Bureau of the Census reported today. This follows a 1.2 percent January decrease. Shipments decreased $1.7 billion or 0.4 percent to $368.9 billion, following a 0.7 percent January increase. This is the first decrease since September 1999. Unfilled orders increased $3.1 billion or 0.6 percent to $545.7 billion, following a 0.8 percent January increase. This is the eighth consecutive increase. Inventories increased $3.3 billion or 0.7 percent to $476.1 billion, following a 0.5 percent January increase. This is the sixth consecutive increase.


Chicago PMI for March = 57.4 vs. 56.7 for Feb.
Prices Paid = + 74.2 vs. 68.9 for Feb.

CHICAGO, March 31 (Reuters) - The Chicagoland Business Barometer rose to a seasonally adjusted 57.4 in March from 56.7 in February, the National Association of Purchasing Management-Chicago said on Friday.

An index below 50 signals a slowing manufacturing economy, while a reading above 50 suggests expansion.

The prices paid index rose to 74.2 in March from 68.9 in February.


University of Michigan Consumer Sentiment for March = 107.1 vs 111.3 for Feb.

NEW YORK, March 31 (Reuters) - The University of Michigan's final consumer sentiment index for March slipped to 107.1 from a final reading of 111.3 in February, market sources said.
