NHC Communications positions itself to become an industry standard for DSL Local Loop
Management

MONTREAL, April 3 /CNW/ - NHC Communications Inc. (TSE: NHC), a leading
provider of carrier class test access and deployment solutions for the Digital
Subscriber Lines (DSL) service market, announced today the release of its new
VCCS(TM) Application Program Interface Software (API). The API enables any DSL
vendor to seamlessly integrate NHC's Virtual Cross Connect System (VCCS) into
its own platform, allowing users to remotely perform vital deployment
functions at the physical layer, which are at the heart of any Central Office
(CO) and co-location network infrastructure.
NHC made today's announcement at DSLcon in San Jose, one of the
industry's leading conferences, being held April 3 to 6. NHC's President and
Chief Executive Officer Sylvain Abitbol is scheduled to address the Kaufman
Brothers conference at DSLcon on April 4 th.
VCCS(TM) API will be made available to any DSL equipment vendor,
including Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexing (DSLAM), test equipment,
Operations Support Systems (OSS), and performance testing suppliers. The API
paves the way for Partnership Agreements between NHC and these vendors,
offering integrated solutions with greater flexibility and ease-of-use to
telecom service providers. The VCCS(TM) API works by executing a set of
standard commands, originating from the vendor's software, that prompt NHC's
VCCS(TM) product to perform specific tasks, such as connect, disconnect,
migrate, back up a port or perform a subscriber service loop back.
"We are working towards the goal of one day allowing Competitive Local
Exchange Carriers (CLECs) and Incumbent Local Exchange Carriers (ILECs) to
work from one operating platform capable of any task and deployment at a rapid
rate," said Sylvain Abitbol, President and Chief Operating Officer of NHC.
"VCCS(TM) API positions us to become an industry standard for local loop
physical layer infrastructure management, allowing for totally integrated
solutions for DSL service providers."
Existing management platforms rely on manual cabling modules and physical
connections, costing the DSL service market valuable time and money. NHC's
VCCS(TM) API facilitates rapid deployment and eliminates costly human error,
without having to establish a physical connection.

The introduction of the VCCS(TM) API sustains the momentum created by a
number of recent accomplishments in the DSL marketplace including:

- Partnering agreement with Hekimian Laboratories, Inc. to integrate the
two companies' product offerings;
- Entered into a contract worth, if fully realized, approximately $26
million with a major U.S. CLEC to deploy VCCS(TM) system to 435
collocation sites during the next two years;
- Completion of oversubscribed special warrants offering, with proceeds
to the company of $9.8 million;
- Successful completion of interoperability testing between VCCS(TM)
product and Promatory Communications' Intelligent Multiservice Access
System (IMAS).

NHC Communications Inc. is an international leader in the design and
manufacture of innovative remotely controlled physical layer cross-connect
solutions for established and next-generation voice/data networks. With a
unique range of technologies developed from years of experience, NHC is now at
the heart of today's corporate enterprise service market and the
telecommunications industry.
