Chaz, I think we're mostly in agreement. I wasn't defending posts on biotechs. I don't think they should be discussed here not because of their profitability (or lack thereof) or political issues surrounding the industry, but because this industry is not discussed in TFM as being gorilla habitat. I agree with you that discussions about retailing and lots of other industries don't belong here. I think your description of "computers/networks/telecommunications" generally captures the industries where gorillas are most likely to be found and where most of our efforts should be focused. I agree with you that there's been an awful lot of bandwidth dedicated to non-GG companies, Hot Stocks, and Hot Sectors. This is unfortunate. The problem, as I see it, is there are no clear-cut rules, or at least rules that are uniformly enforced, on this thread other than the (in)famous "no rudeness." If everything is essentially on-topic, then the thread careens out of control and the signal to noise ratio goes way, way down. If someone like you or UF try to steer it back on-topic, it might stick for a little while, but then it veers back out of control. I also think it's a bit unfair to blame the newcomers. While I believe the newcomers contribute to thread bloat and off-topic discussions, sometimes they are just taking their cue from thread elders who, through periods of temporary insanity, forget gorilla gaming and delve into momo investing, options, and other non-GG topics. I suppose you've heard the story about people who live in glass houses. There seems to be agreement that we need to put our house in order with regard to thread bloat and staying on topic. I support efforts to do this...a kindly thank you and a prosperous investing from UF or other thread elder to tinkershaw or others who veer off-topic would suffice. Also, sometimes it's best to lead by example, which is something we could all do a little more of. We disagree on the profit issue. I agree it can add safety and can be a dandy personal screen for anybody's portfolio, or even the portfolio Uncle Frank wants to put together as the offical G&K portfolio. But it isn't a gorilla game criteria. I don't know about where you are, but there's a beautiful, sunny Friday afternoon that's calling my name. Have a good weekend Chaz and everyone.
