Mike: Tinker is experimenting and has explained that. He is testing GG concepts. For reasons that have nothing to do with GG and everything to do with politics, I think any investment in the medical area is dangerous and risky because I see the safety and long run viability of a gorilla as particularly vulnerable. The government may cage, wound or starve the gorilla. Not for me as I have said.

On the other hand, Qualcomm itself was a new area, brand new and not covered by the original book, since the authors were talking about the area they knew - computers and related software.

Telecom itself was an extension of GG - an experiment in applying GG principles.

Gilder's telecosm also branches out beyond the narrow origins of the original GG book.

Suggest that experimentation and testing GG concepts is a good idea without arbitrary off limits signs posted.

Best.

RE: The Market

What a week! down 20% for the week, as we all are. The light at the end of the tunnel is the money that keeps pouring into the mutual funds to buy our stocks. Eventually, the funds have to get out of the MM and come back to us. They have no choice if they want to keep the money coming in.

RE: The Gorilla game

If I had sold 75% of my qualcomm on Jan 1st, and put 1/3 each into CSCO, MSFT, and INTC, my portfolio would be up about 19% for the year.

Have you done as well or better?

I have not.

RE: Biotechs

If a company comes up with a cure for the common cold, You can forget about it becoming a Gorilla. Clinton and company would be on TV the next day insisting that if be given free to the world. I own one Biotech, and it got hammered, for no good reason, the last time Clinton spouted off.

CINCINNATI: For any of you who live in that area, I will be dancing at the Wyoming Civic Center next weekend, March 7th and 8th.
