There has been a shift in emphasis by the portfolio managers towards wanting a higher return on investments in the E & P sector for the last several years. The sector has been criticized for as long as I can remember for having a low rate of return on their assets for the risk. Historically, the markets have rewarded the company's with the highest growth in assets regardless of the return on assets.

Interesting that the report is from Simmons, since they only cover oil service stocks and I have never seen them give a report on the oil and gas exploration side of the business?

I do like Dan's list of 18 companies he has chosen to study since I own 12 of the 18, and most of them are the cream of the crop in the industry.
