ATLANTA, Jul 11, 2000 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- Scientific-Atlanta's (NYSE:SFA) professional services group, SciCare Broadband Services, announced today the completion of headend installations that will provide more than 400,000 Cox Communications cable subscribers in Louisiana and Ohio with expanded access to cable modem and interactive services.
SciCare successfully integrated, installed, and activated analog headends at five hub locations for Cox Communications New Orleans and a master analog and digital headend in Parma, Ohio, serving the metropolitan Cleveland area.
SciCare Broadband Services Provides Multivendor Support
In Parma, Ohio Scientific-Atlanta supplied Prisma(R) fiber optic transmission products, RF Signal Manager, and Transmission Network Control System (TNCS) products. In both systems, Scientific-Atlanta supplied a full suite of its Continuum(R) headend products and provided drafting, design, wiring, installation and real-time system operation monitoring services for Scientific-Atlanta equipment as well as multivendor equipment. Tim Yanda, Cox Parma director of technology said, "We needed to work with an organization that could install not only Scientific-Atlanta equipment, but integrate existing products from other companies; SciCare Broadband Services provided the end-to-end services that we needed."
Cox (New Orleans) Launches Services Ahead of Schedule
The metro New Orleans area upgrade provides an extension of the existing network and allows the operator to push fiber deeper to hub sites located at Metairie, Lapalco, Midcity, St. Charles E. and St. Charles W. The Parma project involved retrofitting an existing headend for higher bandwidth services. Committing up to 10 technicians on-site at any given time, SciCare Broadband Services was able to activate all sites either ahead of or on schedule, allowing Cox to launch new digital services to customers earlier than planned.
In addition to headend installs, SciCare Broadband Services also installed RF Signal Manager and Transmission Network Control System (TNCS) products to give Cox the capability of providing ongoing status monitoring of the outside plant, along with sweep and frequency response monitoring to ensure top network performance and reliability.
Mike Latino, Cox New Orleans vice president, engineering said, "With the time-critical demands of these projects, we needed a group like SciCare Broadband Services with a proven track record and extensive knowledge of the industry and products. This service organization met and often exceeded our expectations."
Larry Bradner, president of SciCare Broadband Services said, "We're committed to providing best-in-class service to our customers. Our staff is knowledgeable, understands the products, and was able to meet Cox's launch deployment schedule, while not only integrating our equipment but also a variety of multivendor products."
