Just another chapter in Rande's Rants. . . .

About twice each year I remind everyone that 'Rande' rhymes with Tanned, Sand and Banned. And that "IS" is actually my last name. . . well, part of it anyway. The rest wouldn't fit as my AOL username. . .so I am found under "Rande Is" on AOL, SI, RB, Yahoo and everywhere else I've ever been. . .and at no time do I post under any other handle. . . except for that one time in 1986, when I went on a chat room as a drunk Jamaican surfer dood. But that was a long time ago.

So what's with the sun of late? This morning I herd the roosters crowing at 4:15AM. . . and I was up at 5:00AM with the sun. . . did we miss a rotation or something? . . . No worries, this morning I switched my house to Daylight Savings Time. . . the kids still don't know it. . . LOL. . .seriously. . . every clock in the house and on every computer.

And who cares if we are a bit early. Southern Indiana doesn't even subscribe to Daylight Savings. . . so visitors to, say, Wal-Mart Distribution in Seymour, IN. . .must ask the local time upon arrival or face being an hour off to a meeting.

While we are at it. . .on this tongue-in-cheek sort of day. . .I have a solution for daylight savings time. . . .in the spring we run our clocks forward an hour. . .in the fall we run them back an hour. . .right? . . .so why not just split the difference then leave them alone?

Tonight instead of running ahead an hour. . .why don't we all just go 30 minutes ahead. . . and leave it like that for good. . . . . . . . <g> . . . just think of the aggravation it would save twice each year.

There are so many things in life that don't make sense. . . like why it is that when you want to look up "FED EX" in the yellow pages it is never where you would expect to find it?
Its not under 'packages' and if you go to 'parcel delivery', it says See 'delivery service'. . . but when you go there, you find only local couriers. So you try 'package delivery'. . .isn't that what we want to do? It says See Delivery Service; Also Express & Transfer Service; Also Messenger Service; Also Air Courier Service

Forget Air Courier unless you have a heart that needs to be somewhere fast. No listing under 'overnight delivery'. And don't bother looking under 'mail pick-up & delivery' . . it says See 'messenger service'. I guess that is where the Pony Express would advertise if it was still in business. I'm thinking it would have been quicker to drive to their Memphis headquarters. . . .and while I'm at it. . .where is my shipment of Exotic Orchids from Hawaii that I ordered for my wedding day 2 years ago? They absolutely positively never came.

The Yellow pages classification for Federal Express is officially "Air Cargo & Package Express Service". . . you'll find that section squeezed in between Advertising and Air Conditioners.

And there they are. . .Airborne Express, Emery Worldwide, Greyhound Bus Lines, U.S. Postal Service and United Parcel Service. . . but alas. . . no Federal Express in the Nashville book. Turns out their offices are located in nearby Franklin and they have their own book.

In a world where we drive on the parkway and park in the driveway. . . forgive me if I choose to pass on April Fools jokes here. With a sucker born every second, our task of edjukading them before the sharks, wolves, cons and everyone else that feels superior to others gets hold of them, is monumental to say the least. We are not obliged to help others. . .but if someone helped you at some time, don't you owe it to others to pass along the gesture?

And especially now that the heat has been turned up a notch. We need one another now more than ever. To watch each others backs. . .and point out the opportunities along the way.

Well. . .I've got to go. . . I may have just spotted a pair of rose-breasted grosbeaks in our dogwoods. . . .where's my camera?
