The Cache May Indeed Be Gone For Certain B2B Players... Although I think it's a little early to be making that judgment. As for ITWO's slippery history, I wonder what you're referring to: the world's most conservative and cautious CEO? I mean it was Sanjiv Sidhu's very mild statement about the forward-looking pipeline that got ITWO hammered into the $9s in 1998. And, as it turned out, Sidhu's mild caution proved unwarranted. A strong history of making their numbers? A reference customer list that reads like a "Who's Who" of FORTUNE 500 companies? Technologies that are acknowledged as best of breed by virtually all who make their livings studying such things? Ahhh, I suspect, you mean their share price which lends new meaning to the world "volatility." Alas, and happily I might add, I've been invested there since 1998. B2B as a "play" is, IMHO, far from over. Within two months (or so I hear) there will be an IPO from a B2B integration company called Objectspace. It's an "infrastructure" software that allows companies to actually share and integrate business processes. I assure you that, in this world of new alliances and mergers and the need to exchange digital assets and share business processes, that THIS kind of B2B is here for a while yet. As is i2's kind of B2B. I mean, simply put, i2's TradeMatrix eBusiness solution is like B2B on steroids: with procurement, fulfillment (an ITWO strong suit that solves the much-bemoaned "Christmas problem"), product management, customer management, planning, and customer care. Now, i2 ISN'T the strongest in ALL of those areas, but it's already proven itself as the leader in fulfillment and planning... and already has some "live" procurement installations to talk about. I don't think Pru's Crook is going to hailed in the coming months as the man who took the bloom off the B2B rose. If anything, if you've followed his "crooked" im-prudent history of downgrades and upgrades, you might get the feeling that the only call he's really good at making is when it's time to clear some Pru inventory or add to it. In the meantime, here's my not-so-slippery prediction: ITWO at $180 by November if not sooner. Best Regards, c m
