RobertG: I'm pleased for you that Michigan St. won. But I suspect you had some rather nervous moments. The boys in Vegas set the line at Mich. St, -8. Hit it right on the button. These guys put out "solid" lines says my friend and retired bookmaker Barney Buflekarp. Perhaps the Vegas oddsmakers felt that most of the country was gonna bet on Michigan St. The line doesn't always reflect the "true" difference between two teams. Occasionally, the line is set to help the bookmakers balance their books. In this case I think Michigan St. should probably have been a 6-7 point favorite...but by giving 8, (or 9 or 10) enough money flowed in on Wisconsin to help the boys balance their books. I suspect too that some of the Vegas line-makers might make terrific stock traders. (Lee)
