Advanced Fibre agrees to acquisition

PETALUMA, Calif., April 4 (Reuters) - Telecommunications company Advanced Fibre Communications Inc. on Tuesday said it had agreed to acquire privately-held, equipment maker GVN Technologies Inc. of Largo, Florida.

Under the deal's terms Advanced Fibre will pay 1.1 million shares and stock purchase options for GVN. The deal is expected to close in Advanced Fibre's fiscal second quarter.

GVN develops integrated access device (IAD) equipment for communications service providers, so the acquisition expands Advanced Fibre's own product portfolio and gives it the ability to provide access products for converged voice and data networks, the company said in a statement.

GVN was founded in 1997 and has approximately 50 employees.

Advanced Fibre shares lost 7/16 to end at 51-5/8 on the Nasdaq market system. The news announcement came after the market's close.
