Plax impresses Bears

The Bears have re-signed WR Marcus Robinson and acquired Eddie Kennison in a trade this offseason but coach Dick Jauron still isn't content. That, however, would change if Chicago is able to get Plaxico Burress in the upcoming draft. "He's got body strength and quick feet to get out of breaks and strong hands to snatch the ball," Jauron said of the Michigan State star. "Because of his size, he's a guy you can throw deep to anyway." Chicago has the ninth pick in the draft and would probably need to trade up for Burress.

Building block

The Bears have spent much of the offseason focused on upgrading their defense. That mindset did not change on the opening day of the 2000 NFL Draft. With the ninth overall pick, the Bears selected New Mexico LB Brian Urlacher. "He's going to be a heck of a player," vice president of player personnel Mark Hatley said of the team's newest member. Urlacher earned All America honors and was the Mountain West Conference Player of the Year in 1999.
