Capitalism is nothing other than a predominantly free- market in capital. Many rationales have been given: Adam Smith, because it conduces to national wealth; Pope Leo XIII, because it enables the working man to accumulate the means to escape his humble position; Ayn Rand, because our duty is mainly to our own betterment, and to leave others alone to tend to themselves....Only the Randian version is undermined by religion, not capitalism as it has been historically understood.

Altruism is its enemy by making morally good acts exclusively those done for others, and casting a suspicious light on self- interested acts.

Socialism is predominantly the political allocation of capital, and therefore the opposite of capitalism.

Capitalism exists in the United States, albeit in an attenuated form.

The collection of taxes is a legitimate function of government, as is the regulation of harmful substances and the investigation of crime. There is nothing inherently wrong with the bureaus mentioned.

There has been excessive federalization of matters best handled by the states, there is too much taxation, and there are too many regulations that act as drag on the economy. Vote Republican!
