Marin - It was good to hear this assertion that Ericy will pay Qcom royalties on ALL flavors of CDMA. Would you by any chance, have a link which substantiates this? Read all of the CC notes. The one given here is just the first conference call discussing this, but subsequent quarterly conference calls were even clearer on the subject. Message 8547799 Clark

From the Qualcomm Analysts' Meeting(note that DS was formerly known as W-CDMA): "Major companies, including Lucent, Ericcson, Nortel, Samsung, Philips, and others are licensed for 3G CDMA standards, including DS. License agreements require payment to QCOM of the same royalty for use of any of our patents regardless of the standard. Every "major" wireless telecommunications manufacturer has approached QCOM and requested or negotiated to obtain a license under our patents for 3G standards, including DS. QCOM has informed standards bodies that it has more than 100 patents that are essential to the Direct Spread mode(formerly known as "W-CDMA"), proposed 3G standard including patents covering CDMA waveforms, power control, handoff, signal acquisition and many other vital features QCOM has rejected requests by industry groups to contribute its essential DS patents into a patent pool Ericsson has stated that QCOM is a "pioneer in developing CDMA technologies" and is on record in its license agreement stating that QCOM owns "patents that are essential to make, use, and sell products which comply with the standards based on cdmaOne, cdma2000, and WCDMA QCOM does not hype, spin, or lie. You can take these comments to the bank.
