The recent closure of the Tiger fund leaves the Russians in sole control of Pd prices. While the size of Tigers Pd holdings is not known, it was thought to sizeable, and there were some indications that they began selling earlier this year.

What remains of their pd is also unknown, but whatever the case, it either has or will come to the market soon. It is possible that this bullion is the cause for the recent softness in pd.

I think it's clear the Russians can keep prices north of $600 US dollars. The bigger question is can they keep pd from going much, much higher.

It is high pd prices that will make bulk tonnage projects feasible.
