CME revises equity index downside price limits

CHICAGO, March 31 (Reuters) - The Chicago Mercantile Exchange said Friday it revised
its downside price limits for equity index futures and options.

The regular revisions, which occur quarterly, take effect at the opening of pit trading on
Monday, April 3, at 8:30 a.m. CDT (1330 GMT) and will remain in effect for the second
quarter of 2000.

The limits, in points and percent-equivalent, are as
follows:
S&P 500 Midcap 400 Russell NASDAQ 100
& E-mini 2000 & E-mini
2.5% 35.00 11.00 13.00 110.00
5.0% 70.00 22.00 27.00 220.00
10.0% 140.00 45.00 55.00 440.00
15.0% 210.00 67.00 82.00 660.00
20.0% 280.00 90.00 110.00 880.00

The intermediate price limits are pegged to declines of 2.5 percent, 5 percent and 15 percent in the index price and are in effect
for 10 minutes.

At the end of 10 minutes, a two-minute trading halt occurs if lead-month futures are locked ``limit-offered.'

The 2.5- and 5-percent limits apply only until 2:30 p.m. CDT (1930 GMT) daily.

After 1:30 p.m. CDT (1830 GMT), the New York Stock Exchange will not halt trading at the 10-percent decline level. Thus, if
the CME's 10-percent limit is reached after 1:30 p.m., it will stay in effect for only 10 minutes with a two-minute trading halt if
the market remains limit down at the end of that period.
