Well, as a "value" High Tech investor, I looked around to see where there was value in the sector. I came up with Microsoft, as it's participation in the Big Cap Tech rally of the past 4-5 months was virtually nil! The legal battle has badly hurt their recent growth, and I felt a decision was very close, that would allow them to get back to business! I bought in at the top of the one day pop they had last week, and now with the talks broken off my positive attitude, at least short term, has been delt a severe blow! Does the title of this chat room now become " How low will Microsoft drop?" Looking for opinions. Thanks

Howie

limtex, Good points.
I would not be surprised to see MSFT doing something that supports their stock if by chance it goes down much.

I think they must have weighed the settle vs. no settlement issue very carefully and probably realized that the solution that the government proposed would have been more harmful to the company in the long run.

I don't think investors are that dump that they would accept any settlement as a good thing. A bad settlement would have resulted in the stock tanking, IMHO.

Therefore, they decided it is better to go take their chances in the courts. In the meantime their revenue stream is not going to be hurt in any way. Maybe that little extra they make would be enough to pay off any lawyers in private lawsuits in their judgement. Again, I think consumer lawsuits against the company are going nowhere due to the very little in damages that would be awarded. It is probably a better bet to go down to the 7-11 and buy some lottery tickets instead from consumers' perspective. Why waste gas on driving to some lawyer's office.

It is pretty simple unless I don't understand the American legal process very well. I see absolutely no parallel to tobacco which hits on issues of health---which may be a priceless issue.

Better for MSFT to take a chance on the court system. It may be a better bet!
