Hi Scott.... >>A split like this would also then leave the "directory" side of the company to determine their future. I actually think that Novell would want to form divisions around the core platforms (NetWare and NDS) and then the "Directory-Enabled Applications". So maybe it is a three-way split ... This actually creates "three" Novell's, but I believe it starts to allow the individual "divisions" to move forward towards their own successes, without being burdened by artificial limitations placed on them by management. Out of this, I do agree, would grow a much stronger Novell ...>> Perhaps the time has indeed come. Eric, Drew - finish the job. Take the reins. Either you do this in a positive way within Novell, or the marketplace will do it for themselves and eat Novell alive. While I'm very impressed with Dave Shirk and Steve Adams, there are bigger issues weighing in that need to be resolved. I believe the split/fracture inside Novell is already there - ie. there's an Old Novell and there's a New Novell. Perhaps Scott three Novells would be a better split as you say. And each could be launched in tracking stocks - each of which will retain a bit of legacy baggage. I really think this Internet Appliance Age has begun. Gilder may beef this vision up with visions of storewidth sugerplums dancing in investors heads. I think the INDIVIDUAL will be doing a ton of work over the next year or more RECLAIMING their energy, power and control away from portals, companies, etc. If we are moving really, really fast toward this New Paradigm of SERVICE this will force ALL companies to "come to ME." I have to go to people, groups, networks and associations to SERVE them. By the same token, if people, groups, networks and associations want my trust - ie. money and time - they will all be forced to COME TO ME. This "coming to me/us" service shift will radically and massively create a surge in demand for Internet appliances and Gilder storewidth which INDIVIDUALS - not companies - will totally and completely control. That's why Cisco and the net stocks took on a life of their own and went beserk. The REAL Internet is just beginning. Some very "smart" investors "get" this secret. As these Internet infrastructure companies move into Unified Messaging, VoIP and softswitch spaces they are being valued as if they could in fact support the underlying massive move to this New Individual-powered Internet Service infrastructure. A massive, massive arbitrage from Old to New is underway. Sit back and watch. Somebody inside Novell better "get" this energy....and soon. Peace. GO!!
