MS Office was distributed for years by the computer manufacturers. I put up a copy of my invoice from Gateway. It wasn't in my original posting of the article, because it took a while to find it. Also, just look at old computer magazine ads. Almost all of the major manufacturers distributed Office.

It is true that today, it's mostly MS Works that is distributed, but like I said in my article, that's because Microsoft's monopoly is now well-established, so it doesn't have to give it away for free anymore. This is how predatory pricing works.
