Hey Duane:

<<< anything to counteract the gloom?>>> Ok, I'll try and find a glass half full: volume on the Friday rally in the Naz was impressive, suggesting another upward attempt and we need a follow-through move this week to confirm the rally. Despite many leading stocks having fallen through 50dma, there are still a bunch near highs or within 5%. Semi's show a strong tendency to bounce back "firstest with the mostest." On your naz chart, if you drink four beers and take off your reading glasses, then cover the last third with your palm, the two peaks the end of Dec. and Mid-Jan. look very much like the two we've just experienced (with the slight exception of the latter's second dip undercutting the previous, and the second peak not quite equaling the first (that's where the beer comes in). And the Naz went on to rally. With earnings now coming up, good numbers could change the shaken sentiment we're seeing. That's about all the positive I can see. Personally, I down supper with a glass of fear every night and make up short lists of attractive puts.

best,
cb
