Ann,
There seems to be a lot interest in Rande's prior post and it is refreshing to see. The manipulation of stock prices by gurus and fund managers is staggering. They have undoubtedly found that Henry Blodget's remarks concerning a 400 dollar target on Amazon had a dramatic effect if shown over and over again on CNBC. You wrote..."Somehow, Wall St. manages to find a way every quarter to pummel down those stocks they really are salivating to own at a much lower price", which I fully agree with. On the flipside was an analyst not 2 weeks ago who put a $500 price target on RMBS with an eps estimate of $27 dollars by 2002. Of course it was played on CNBC, like grotesque footage of a car accident is played on local TV. It sells. The sad part is that many investors buy the hype and get ruined both going up and coming down, while those with the TV venue to do the hyping, rake in the profits.
I applaud sites like Rande is... HOME for offering divergent points of view and for the most part, level-headed posters with sincere picks and thoughts. Sometimes I'd like to reach through the TV screen and grab one of those analysts and shake him...saying..." I'm not buying that pet rock so go away!!!"...<g>
