"Globalstar service is already available in 27 countries, and is planning to introduce service in over 80 countries by mid-year," sez G* USA.

Let's see, in the March 16 PR regarding special offers to Iridium subs, they said the same thing...but since then, they added (at least) Australia, so we should be at 28 countries, right?

More importantly, no one can be sure WHICH are the 27 countries where service "is available" and of those how many have service "available" to G* USA subscriber/roamers.

The G*USA web site still says coverage in Western Europe starts in March--did that happen? and is it available in ALL of Western Europe, which would bring the country total well above 27? And what about roaming to central America, Brazil and rest of S. America, Australia, and etc.

And why does the G*USA site still have two maps: one for "soft" launch and one for "commercial" launch?

Finally, as of April 3, the G* LP site still shows "expected satellite coverage as of April 2000" in 64 countries, many of which are not yet in service, and there's no telling which if any support interregional roaming.

Although it would be nice to have current sub and MoU counts, I can live without them; but I sure wish the company would at least provide current and consistent info on where and for whom the service is really operating.

Story Filed: Monday, April 03, 2000 2:32 PM EST

POMPANO BEACH, Fla., Apr 3, 2000 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Globalstar USA Distributor, GMPCS Personal Communications proudly announces their .49 cents per minute 2nd Quarter "get acquainted with Globalstar" price promotion.

New GMPCS Globalstar Customers activating terminals between April 1 and May 15th who sign a one-year contract on the Standard Pak 20 Plan will enjoy introductory domestic airtime pricing of just $0.49 cents per minute through July 15th, 2000. New customers signing up on the Back Up Pak will receive a 30% discount on access and domestic airtime charges resulting in monthly service fees starting at just $13.99 per line. Existing GMPCS Globalstar Customers will also receive the benefits of this promotional discount on their existing services.

"The $0.49 cents per minute promotion in no way affects our current Iridium Survivor Rebate Program and can actually be combined with our rebate of up to $495.00 towards the purchase of a Globalstar Handset and Hands free Car Kit", stated Jon Klein, VP & General Manager GMPCS.

GMPCS began offering Globalstar services on line @ www.gmpcs-us.com in mid December, 1999. Cellular Subscriptions are offered in 98% of the United States through national carrier contracts.

"We are the only distributor providing our customers with one-stop shopping (cellular and satellite bundling) on a National basis, no other distributor can make that statement", says Klein. He goes on to say, "Since the commercial launch in late February, sales have exceeded our wildest expectations. The recent demise of Iridium and the implementation of a Nationwide Dealer Network created a minor capacity problem in our office. We have added additional phone and fax lines as well as administrative and warehouse personnel to stay up with the crunch."

Based in Pompano Beach, Florida, GMPCS Personal Communications is a privately owned full service International communications company specializing in satellite and wireless voice and data technologies.
