From 1993 to 1997, Kimmitt served as managing director of Lehman Brothers, based in New York and Washington. Before joining Lehman Brothers, Kimmitt held a series of high-level government posts, serving as U.S. Ambassador to Germany (1991-1993), Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs (1989-1991), General Counsel to the U.S. Treasury Department (1985-1987), and Deputy Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs (1983-1985). In addition to serving on the boards of several companies, including Mannesmann AG, Siemens AG, and United Defense Industries, Inc., Kimmitt has received several prestigious awards, including the Presidential Citizens Medal; the U.S. Treasury Department's Alexander Hamilton Award, and the Arthur Flemming Award for distinguished public service.
