Stu, "Archiving is a pain."

How about having a CD burner, Zip discs, on-line storage site for "keepers", floppy diskettes,...

There are a lot of solutions out there and I find them a lot nicer than a shoe box in my attic brimming full with color negatives from the last decade.

Stu,

I'm not sure what you mean by smaller film but it is 35mm
and has the standard format as well as 2 additional formats
to choose from.

35mm is the dimension from corner to corner of the negative if I remember correctly. The Advantix system uses smaller film and thus is not a 35mm format.

The reason you notice the slightly inferior resolution is mostly (but not exclusively) because of the size of the negative is smaller. When blowing up Adnvatix prints to the same size as traditional sizes used witht 35mm photos the magnitude of increased size is greater, rendering somewhat inferior quality.

I'm surprised the Advantix system hasn't done better than it has. It's a wonderful system for all point-and-shooters with advantages not enjoyed by other formats.

Digital Cameras there is still the issue or archiving
I'm very happy with my digital camera (Kodak). The pictures are very sharp and look good when printed on a quality printer. They look great if we take the image to Kinko's to print on their ultra-quality printers (for about a dollar per page, except you can get 4 to six photos per page). If I had a prize winning photo, I could get it run off on a linotronic, service costs about $25/file. I can get pretty good reprints direct from the compact flash at Walmart. I got a 30Gb hard drive where I organize them and then write them off to a CDROM. The only problem I have has been with rechargable batteries, I think I got a bad batch or bad recharger because a couple swelled up and wouldn't charge (and I wouldn't trust them anymore).
