You'd never stand living in Europe, they smoke like chimney's over there. Things were changing a little in France toward the end (I left in 1999), but you'd normally see ashtrays next to the workstations and stuff. It was like going back in time 20 years in that respect. But I remember in college, I sometimes stayed in the bar car on the Long Island Railroad commuter train to avoid paying, that was almost instant lung cancer! No wonder they didn't bother checking tickets in there :-)
