Mutual funds might also be coping with a lot of redemptions, which will prevent them from buying more stocks.

I've considered taking some money out of my funds and putting it into CDs...where I can make a guaranteed 6-7 percent, whereas I'm not positive about how much I can make in the stock market as long as Greenie is haunting the house. I'm probably not alone in that thinking.

My son is in an S&P 500 index fund and he's not making much at all this year...the S&P 500 has only risen 2 percent since January. Some people in that position will simply bail. In fact, investment gurus such as Bob Brinker and Abby Joseph Cohen advocate putting more money into cash.
