Makers of Linux software, which competes with Microsoft's
Windows operating system, could benefit from a breakup of
Microsoft, said Patricia d'Ille, a portfolio manager with Bacot-
Allain Gestion in Paris, whose Soprane Nouvelles Technology Fund
is up 33 percent this year.
``It might be giving technologies like Linux a very big door
to enter the market,' she said.

VA Linux Systems Inc. rose 2 5/8 to 63. Red Hat Inc., which
develops the Linux operating system, rose 1 11/16 44 1/16.
