I don't know enough about JR's portfolios to comment constructively. However, I will note that you address only a single characteristic (leverage) of JR's hedge funds. That you further apply leverage to a benchmark known to have outperformed most others since 1980 might be deemed cherry picking by someone less trusting. Presuming you'd been faced with choosing the largest economy (US) or the second-largest (Japan) on which to make your levered bet in 1980 (without, needless to say, the benefit of hindsight), you might have chosen the latter. Your leveraged returns then would have been a wee bit different. -mb
