Shamsaee,

My portfolio is(was) at a point, where I need to protect it to a certain extent.

My suggestion is that if you're like me and can't sleep at night knowing that you'll relatively soon need a certain portion of your portfolio, simply take it out of the stock market and have a good night's sleep.

I've found that "LEAPs Replacement" has worked for me in this instance. What I mean by that is taking some money off the table in the stock that you are worried about and buying Leaps as proxies when things get a little dicey. A kind of scaled back long. It's not for everyone and obviously you have to get beyond other issues such as account type, vol, your outlook, time horizon, etc.

Shamsaee and others looking to hedge:

How about taking some profit and buying bonds? I'm not trying to be a smart-aleck. Isn't this a safe and sensible way to protect some of those profits?
