Cha2, << Would you keep this thread informed as time permits on "smart cards"? While there is no gorilla nor king yet in that area, IMO it is a key area of technology to watch >> I will do that, I'm just a bit slow about doing it. I have traveled perhaps a little too close to the industry, for too long, and consequently have difficulty differentiating the forest from the trees, investment wise. I should point out that the 10th annual CardTech/SecurTech (CTST) is being held 1 month from now in Miami FL. This is the largest smart card show in the US (perhaps the world). I have attended all 10. The first one (DC) could have been held in a phone booth but it has become a pretty darned big event and exhibitors include some pretty big players in the IT world, and a slew of companies, I guarantee, you have never heard of. To GMST fans I should point out that this year conference proceedings will be available on the "Rocket e-book" as an option to the printed versions. I was just up on the CTST web site and I noticed a very well done article called "The Invaluable Role of Smart Cards in Open Computer Systems" tucked away in a back corner:ctst.com Please note that it appears that this gem appears to have been written in 1994 (Egad) but the terminology and concepts are pretty current. It reminds me that back then we were thinking that smart cards were just about to cross the chasm here in the US. That thinking has not (unfortunately) changed. Here we are, about to crawl out of the chasm (I think). I might also add that in May 1998 (just after "Gorilla Game" was published) the very appropriate keynote speaker at the CTST kickoff luncheon was Geoffrey Moore. It was my 2nd sit through of his presentation of primates and royalty. I was first introduced to these critters 4 months earlier (before GG publication) by Mr. Moore, in South Africa. I know I've mentioned that before, but I think I last said it more than 10,000 posts back on this popular thread, so please excuse my repetetive instincts. <g> - Eric -
