Dennis, this is really an excellent take on the situation.

There's no way Inprise itself would have gone for the deal at the current stock price. Cowpland has made a job out of explaining away past quarters and pumping up the prospects for the next one. As many before me have pointed out, they never deliver anything but more hot air. I'm genuinely sad that Borland has made such a bad move when they really were in a position of strength, having weathered J++ and brought JBuilder out of Beta -- I considered JBuilder 1.0 to be a crude proof of concept that wasn't even testable, JBuilder 2.0 was an unsuable sub-alpha quality product.

Now that JBuilder 3.0 is out and stable -- pass on 3.5 and wait for 4.0 folks -- they sell the company to the bottom rung of the office suite vendors. Very sad situation.
