*OT*: Well said. I am in the software industry and it really irks me to hear the nonsense MS is spewing about the service they provide to their customers. When it comes to MS products, to me the "M" in Microsoft stands for one thing: MEDIOCRITY. Kind of like the McDonalds of software (i.e. bland, uninspiring, and catering to the lowest common denominator) - the only difference is that you don't have to eat at McDonalds - you have many other choices. The same can't be said about MS.

True they did set the standard which does offer some benefits. However overall, it is my opinion that they have been terrible for the software industry. Nobody can compete with any MS product. Regardless of how much better someone else's product may be, MS will crush any competitor. If someone comes out with a product that in an area they want to conquer, they bully & threaten the company and offer the company only one way out - to sell out to MS. There are no choices when it comes to major computer software components such as the OS, office suites, and other software. People are forced to swallow whatever MS dishes out. People see it as being free and coming with their computers. What they don't realize is that they are paying upwards of $100 for the MS software as it is built into the price of the computer.
