"We are already hearing of chip people double ordering..." Where is that from? I have not seen anything published nor heard anything personally in the industry.
TIA

OK thanks Zeev. So your basic message is, there may be a worldwide recession coming next year. So that would explain why the market is selling off all tech growth stocks indiscriminately.

That's actually a reasonable hypothesis for current market psychology. Doesn't mean the market is right, of course. Japan is certainly more likely to improve than to deteriorate any further. Japan is still the world's second largest economy, right?

By the way, the numbers I've seen indicate that the semiconductor consumption by non-PC uses is now a substantial majority. All those gadgets add up, I guess. And anyway, I'm not sure I see any new evidence of PC sales slowing. Sales in Japan are booming, for example.

My guess is that we have a couple more quarters before we have to worry seriously about future deterioration in the fundamentals for semi equipment companies. And at least 4 more quarters for the semi companies themselves. So I think the stocks will come back from their current slump. But of course maybe I'm wrong and you're right.
