aus,

The dac on the e-100 is a 22kHz DAC. The 128 refers to the sampling rate of the mp3 file, and is 128 KBit/s --- commonly known as CD quality mp3. I expect this DAC will probably be corrected soon, and the next version will probably support a true 44.1/48 kHz DAC, at which point I'll upgrade, and depending on the price, it might kill off the more expensive dedicated MP3 players. A 22k Hz DAC is basically between AM and FM quality --- still ok for occasional listening/jogging with earphones.

A CD player usually has a 44.1 kHz DAC and today's audio DACs in DD&DTS receivers and DVD players are typically 96 kHz or 48kHz to support DVD material.

The DAC (Digital to Analog Convertor) comes after all the decompression is done and is the last stage before the pre-amp or line level output.

With a day like monday, who can sleep? Waiting for market to open.
