Zeev, rll, Thread contributors...

I will post some MRAM and FRAM info tomorrow.

I received the following from Windshield Bill on Yahoo! regarding microdrive which I feel is useful given the recent talk about data-disk and the Halo microdrives...

FROM: I2GO website

This is the big one! 340 meg of storage on a portable MP3 player! NOTE: Microdrives work with USB power or external power ONLY. These babies eat batteries for breakfast! This is the Player for your car.

Additional compact flash cards 32mb, 64mb, 96mb, 170mb, (IBM micro-drive), 340mb (IBM micro-drive) Note: the IBM micro-drives will not work with batteries. For use with USB power or the AC power adapter.

more due diligence

There is a reference to the microdrive on the home page that
indicates some devices will not run on battery power with the
microdrive in place.

The microdrive is a power hog. This is the coup de grƒce for IBM.
You just can't have a power hungry component like microdrive in
portable electronics.

Here is some bench testing I posted last Fall that shows the
microdrive decreases battery life on the Cassiopeia E-100 from
2hrs 33min to just 1hr 20min when repetitively playing multimedia
files (equivalent to continuously playing *.mpeg files with audio)...
