Novell: One Network....ONE Solution

If the investing public understood the power of the REAL Internet, Novell would have advanced strongly yesterday.

For yesterday was a completely self-contained MSFT fear-driven knee-jerk reaction.

Novell, like other technology stocks was simply caught up in the downdraft.

But where does Novell's ONE Network Vision go from here?

I'd like to cut and paste Steve Adams' comments - thanks PJ:

>>PC WEEK: You've mentioned non-NetWare customers twice. Why?

Adams: NetWare as a protocol engine -- it's still the best. But everyone knows what we can do in NetWare environments. We need to grow outside of that.>>

Steve hit the nail here.

ALL future REAL growth will be about "going higher." Novell CAN and WILL grow higher, above and beyond Netware.

>>PC WEEK: Does that include taking customers away from Microsoft [Corp.]?

Adams: eDirectory vs. Active Directory [the directory in Windows 2000] is a tactical battle Microsoft would love to drag us down into. We will stay above that. There's no need. As long as we are cross-platform and they rely on Windows to run the directory, we will be ahead. You'll judge the strength and validity of our message by how much they start doing that stuff, how much they start waging those tactical battles.>>

Novell should declare The Directory Wars have ENDED!!

What?!

Forget it.

It's over.

I strongly believe the world has reached the point where there's enough general awareness that even using the Old Competitive language behind these Old World tactical Us vs. Them Battles has been exposed as being myopically selfish and silly.

I applaud Eric and Steve for continuing to take this "high road" for the worst thing Novell can do is "feed the beast" by being dragged into these Us vs. Them arguments.

For Novell has a BIG New Story to evangelize.

ONE Network.

ONE Focus.

ONE Solution.

SERVICE.

Corporations, companies, communities, groups, associations, networks, families, tribes and individuals all want ONE thing: SERVICE.

This New Age of SERVICE has finally dawned on Novell's vision for ONE Network.....

The REAL Internet has finally begun.

WE can relegate talk of all these battles and wars and Us.
vs. Them fights to the Old Era of BUSINESS.

For a New Era of SERVICE has begun.

The REAL question is if Eric, Steve, Dave and others inside and outside Novell can all band together in a very positive way to launch this New potentially massive growth path for Novell. This may even require "letting go" and spinning off some things. But the most crucial element is ONE thing: MINDSET.

Evangelizing this open MINDSET and energy behind this massive New Paradigm of SERVICE is what's key.

This means jumping onto this New Universal Stage and declaring the end of all these fights, wars and competitions. It means "letting go" and "opening up" and trusting once again.

If Novell truly walks down this New Path they will massively, massively grow from here on out.

I heard somebody quote Dave Shirk at a recent gathering when said when questioned as to how they were really going to pull all this off, he replied, "because we are on a mission from God."

Even Dave has to "let go" for this is NOT about competition anymore. He and Novell has to release the anger and fight.

Let's leave religion out of this, but if Dave is speaking to this energy of SERVICE, then this is the energy Novell needs more of right now. For in this ONE network all pretenses, all rights and all credits disappear. If you, me or anyone is going to succeed we need to place ourselves at the bottom - in the dust - of this inverted New SERVICE pyramid. We are all supposed to kick up enough info, data and dust to try to help and serve others.

I hope Novell CAN be recognized as a New Leader. For it's all in ONE thing: SERVICE.

And ONE thing will get them there: MINDSET.

Peace.

GO!!
