Not to speak for GST, but I don't think he was aiming his remark at SUNW in particular. I personally think SUNW dropped today more than it should have, given the lesser drop of HWP & the jump of IBM (though IBM had some significant news). HWP continues to completely mystify me.

But I think the MSFT thing, fun though it may be to get wound up about--and I sure don't exclude myself--is mostly just the flavor of the week. MSFT developments turn people into flag-wavers, or the open-source righteous, or Sunday-morning Founding Fathers, or whatever. But people on Wall Street are looking for reasons to act on their nervousness about valuations. Valuations are not like they were as of the previous 2:1 SUNW splits. They are crazier.

We're going to be in a permanent state of looney volatility. That's the crux of what's going on IMHO, which is why I agree with GST. We will recover. But we are in for a bumpier and bumpier ride.
