Gary, So the Gorilla is on a monkey hunt? :)

I am not so sure Intel will be able to stem the loss of share that quickly. The Athlon was a clear surprise and I am sure AMD is developing newtech successor parts as fast as they can. Intel can make more of anything slow, but for now seems to lack the ability to make any significant numbers of the high end of the speed crve. Possibly with a new organic dielectric that has been released by (DOW??) that will be able to get a few more MHZ out of the P-III? The new dielectric may well have a higher speed, but it may not have the insulation capability of traditional materials and will then need to be thicker, so this means rounds and rounds of lab runs to optimize it and then a round or more of production before it is qualified, and DOW will sell that stuff to any buyer.
No, I think Intel is in for a "stern chase", and they may not be the faster boat, we know they are the bigger though, and they have not caught AMD in the past year and once the full speed cache on die products appear AMD will pull even further ahead. (BTW stern chase refers to boats in a chase where the speed difference is a small % of the speed of the chase so the pursuing boat only slowly catches the chased boat)
