Audiovox Communications Corporation and Verizon Reach Handset Agreement

HAUPPAUGE, NY, April 4, 2000 - Audiovox Communications Corporation (ACC) today announced that it has reached an agreement with Verizon to supply the company with 1,000,000 CDM-9000s, ACC?s new tri-mode, web-browsing cellular phone. The CDM-9000 will serve as the premier handset of Verizon, the new coast-to-coast wireless company formed by the merger of Bell Atlantic Mobile, Vodafone AirTouch Plc and PrimeCo Personal Communications, and will be available exclusively through Verizon.

The CDM-9000 will support the CDMA and AMPS 800 MHz frequencies and the PCS 1900 MHz frequency, offering consumers the flexibility of service in analog, digital or PCS mode. Compact and slim at just 4.8 ounces, the ultra-functional CDM-9000 is packed with advanced features such as a Web Browser with two soft-touch navigational keys for easy access to the internet, vibrating alert and alarm clock, voice-activated dialing, data capabilities, enhanced phonebook and memory, caller ID with name, short message service, voice mail notification and a choice of 15 audible rings including 11 distinct melodies.

ACC sees the introduction of its new tri-mode phone as an important step toward its goal of offering its customers a wide variety of high-quality wireless technologies, according to Philip Christopher, president and CEO of Audiovox Communications Corporation. ?This commitment from Verizon underscores their confidence in our product offerings,? Mr. Christopher said. ?Although we have done business with the individual carriers for more than 15 years, we are delighted to have our CDM-9000 be the premier phone for Verizon, the largest wireless carrier in North America.?

While many of the phone?s benefits are similar to those of the ACC?s highly successful CDM-4000, the CDM-9000 boasts significant enhancements including a new system selection, enhanced 911 calling and a real time clock that can display at any time and in any of the phone?s three modes. The features of the CDM-9000 are accessed via a menu-driven operating system that is activated with two soft-touch navigational keys. The phone features sleek black rubber keys and a large four-line display.

?We are pleased to be able to offer this phone exclusively to our customers,? said Denny Strigl, president and CEO of Verizon. ?We expect our new SingleRatesm national flat-rate pricing plans to be very popular with our customers, and to create demand for the phone.?
