As I was reading your post (part about october CCs) I kept thinking about the recent discussions of rolling down when a CC "goes bad", aka the underlying takes a real hit. The "repair" strategy as I recall would be rolling down/out.

I found myself in the unenviable situation of having bought back my CC's too early, while still holding the declining stock. In retrospect it might have been better to have closed out the stock position at the same time, but this is only possible when you own a Patented Acme Genuine Crystal Ball - Mine's busted (Gotta get it fixed).

With regard to CC's as a stress-free/stress-reduced income generator, I am thinking that at least for me, writing CC's on potentially great stocks is not warranted, while writing CC's on confirmed great stocks is better.

But what is really looking good to me is choosing a composite vehicle, which has enough volatility to have good premiums (about 5% atm) but is also something you can feel "safe" carrying should there be a real bad market - something like the QQQ or XLK comes to mind. Also these things are lower $$ per share than many potential CC stocks, so they give a bit of granularity for the smaller accounts (like me).

Also since writing puts has an identical risk/reward profile to CC's, I am thinking writing puts atm on QQQ might make a lot of sense. One might be able to write CC's if assigned and continue to generate income - but I also recognize that you may not be able to do so without moving down/out.

OT(?)- I am about to mention a stock that I am long. If you don't want to see it please don't read any further than this paragraph. If you do peek I would be interested in opinions from anyone who might care to give one. The places I frequently post to have pretty much explored as much as is gonna happen. I have the greatest respect for the posters on this thread, and I do not want to do anything unacceptable here. Please go no further if you are not interested.
