Good question jack--

<<what does oracle sell that "powers the internet"? all i know they have is the best databases in the world. that's plenty: good for $2.4 billion last quarter. but what the hell does "power the internet" mean?>>

Would you think a marriage of ORCL with network/directory company Novell would add clout to that vision of selling what "powers the internet"? I'm curious, as Novell sells a pure Intel architecture caching software, they are working on integrating their directory services with wireless protocol (WAP), and there is discussions of their network software being able to go easily through the corporate firewalls to allow "secure" access into critical financial databases such as ones by Oracle. Also they are developing Storage Area Network type applications too.

The reason I say this is NOVL is only a $8 billion marketcap company right now, ORCL is $240 bil, and ORCL just agreed to double their share authorization. NOVL would be a steal for $45 bucks IMHO, and that would be less than 7% of ORCL marketcap for some real gem products and engineers.

It makes me wonder if something is going on here.

Appreciate yours or others thoughts on this matter.
