I think that is the complaint that could have been applied to all of the products that failed. The question is why were they late to market? The answer, in my experience, is the little "innovations" that Microsoft touts. In reality many were just arbitrary changes and the interface was never communicated to developers outside Microsoft, or not communicated until Microsoft had completed the beta of it's competing software. I remember well the days when the OS was put out by the company which made the computer, at least they wanted people to write programs for it. When IBM had rights to DOS the documentation was complete, almost overwhelming. Just try to find documentation on a USB protocol stack today.
