Selling into a downtrend is usually a mistake unless fundamentals have radically changed. My experience has been that when you feel that selling pressure, it's best to buy some more. Buy when blood is running, sell when confetti is flying.

We've seen this kind of activity in the techs many times before in the past few years. It's very healthy for the market. Cleans out all the margin and options speculators. But it's a great time to spread yourself between short and medium term options and leaps. Short term to catch any bounce, medium to catch the reversal, and leaps to the return to hyper buying/overvaluing tech stocks. It's a process that repeats itself over and over.

I've gone from 75% old economy (BRK, C, GT, FTN etc) to 75% tech.

Here's the calls:

2 UCQ Jan 2002 100s
8 UCQ Apr 105s
4 UCQ Apr 110s
1 UCQ Sep 105

Hopefully this same strategy works this time.

Volume is double the normal today. Probably the indication that this is the blowoff. Market will start with a clean slate.
