Now its a game of competitive bidding and fnco will take the best deal.........such is the job of the investment vulture.
Too bad.....elbo looses either way......maybe they should sell out to best buy......be a nice combination.

FNCO deal will ultimatly be ho hum for Barns....debit to equity goes to .81 from .69 and fnco is in a funk for the next 6 months.......should have a nice year end, but ultimatly wal mart, elbo, best buy will benifit most from the sony launch.
looks like barns will have to book 90 mil to good will in their offer, their stock has been in the toilet and they may get a short term boost in the fall, but to me this deal (barnes and fnco) demonstrates the frustration barnes has with their stock price and core business.
I have to admit, despite amzn being overvalued, they do a excellent job with new books, cds, video's and used books.
My dad is 81 years old, and loves to read and buy through catalogues. We got him a puter and showed him how to buy through amazon (as well as find all the notre dame recruting sites) and he loves it. He was looking for a particular book on swans (out of print since 1963) typed the title in and amazon directed him to their auction cite where he was able to buy it from a used book seller via his amazon account.
Amazon has won this catagory hands down.....he'll buy from them till they screw up or he dies as they have the best selection and ease of use.
My point Barnes is in trouble with their book business, they've lot the war and as convience and selection are important drivers of the on line catalogue business number one will only get bigger/better.....maybe they feel they can't win and will milk what they have while they figure out how to redirect their effort.
Interesting
