RESEARCH ALERT-Banc of America sees chip prices rising

NEW YORK, April 4 (Reuters) - Banc of America Securities on Tuesday said it
expects semiconductor chip pricing to rise in 2000, raising the chances that
companies such Advanced Micro Devices Inc. (NYSE:AMD - news) and Intel Corp.
(NasdaqNM:INTC - news) will post higher-than-expected earnings.

-- Analyst Rick Whittington said in a research report, ``buy the group,'
referring to PC chip makers.

-- also said Microsoft's legal travails will not have a significant effect on
the accelerating fundamentals for chip makers).

-- expects main beneficiaries to be AMD and Intel, which he rates as ``strong
buys,' due to impressive revenue, margin and earnings growth.

-- said ASPs (average selling prices) for AMD and Intel chips are increasing while their manufacturing costs
have declined from independent initiatives.

-- sees continued strength in PCs and related peripherals in the first quarter and second quarter.

-- In midday trading, shares of AMD were up 1-11/16 on the New York Stock Exchange, while INTC was up 7/8 at
131-1/2 on the Nasdaq exchange.

Wow, I missed AMD at 56 a little while ago...
The panic of Janet Renos' "Waco on Wall Street" is setting in.
When they take down AMD, all I can think of is recession fears...
