More anecdotal evidence from Toronto, Canada.

I would like to highlight two points:(1) GSTRF's dealers pro-activeness in light of recent promotional pricing, and (2) sales "problems" being experienced in select markets.

Regarding the former, I got a call today from Glentel's sales representative that I have met with before (I had mentioned in one of my earlier posts that she had given me an unrestricted demo phone for the weekend)about GSTRF's new promotional pricing. Specifically, she wanted to tell me that calling rates had been reduced by 25% (i.e. the phone is more "affordable" to use now) and that she would be happy to email/fax me the new calling charges sheet. I certainly like the fact that she has been persistent (and that also in a non-irritating fashion). As an aside, she deals with ONLY satellite communication products, and presumably, knows the likely early-adopter market fairly well.

Secondly, I said to her that while I was still interested in the phone (I enjoyed the call clarity of the demo and was comfortable with its size), my firm was objecting to the purchase because of past experience with Iridium. A few IRIDF phones that it had purchased about 18 months ago, of course, can no longer be used now. Therefore, my employer wants to wait and see if GSTRF will survive as an ongoing entity before authorizing the purchase. She replied that she was "familiar" with the issue and was experiencing it "with some governmental agencies that got burned on IRIDF". So, looks like there is defintely some resistance being encountered from certain vertical market segments and/or former IRIDF customers. I hope this doesn't portend the classic "chicken and egg" phenomena for GSTRF's operational success.

Just my 2 cents. By the way, I really enjoy the thread and respect people's dedication and objectivity despite these trying times. Thank you all.
